AAC to MP3 Converter
Some recorders and apps save bare .aac files that many players, car systems and upload forms refuse. This converter re-encodes them to MP3 with the LAME encoder.

How to use AAC to MP3 Converter
- Drag your .aac files in, or click the drop zone to browse.
- Optionally play the first file in the preview to confirm it is correct.
- Press Convert to MP3.
- Download the finished MP3s, separately or together as a ZIP.
Raw AAC versus MP3
A .aac file is usually an ADTS stream: AAC audio with no MP4 wrapper. It plays well on phones but trips up older hardware and some websites. The tool decodes it and encodes MP3 with -q:a 2, LAME's variable-bitrate mode that lands roughly between 170 and 210 kbps.
AAC is generally more efficient than MP3 at the same bitrate, so a 128 kbps AAC file is already quite compact. Expect the MP3 to be somewhat larger; quality will be close to the source, never above it.
Limitations
- Only the .aac extension is accepted; for AAC inside .m4a use the M4A to MP3 converter.
- Output bitrate cannot be chosen on this page.
- Damaged or truncated AAC streams may fail with a conversion error.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between .aac and .m4a?
Both normally contain AAC audio. An .m4a wraps it in an MPEG-4 container with seeking and tags; a .aac file is the bare stream.
Will the MP3 lose quality?
A little, in theory, because it is a second lossy encode. At the VBR level used here the difference is hard to hear for speech and most music.
Where does the conversion happen?
Entirely in your browser tab using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly; your files stay on your device.
