How to use AAC to WAV Converter
- Select one or more .aac files with the drop zone.
- Preview the first file using the audio player that appears.
- Click Convert to WAV; the first run also downloads the FFmpeg engine.
- Save each WAV, or download them all in one ZIP.
Why decode AAC to WAV
The tool runs FFmpeg's AAC decoder and writes the result as pcm_s16le WAV. Sample rate and channels are left alone, so a 44.1 kHz stereo file stays exactly that. No further compression is applied, which means repeated edits and exports will not stack up more loss.
This is useful when a recording from a dashcam, screen recorder or phone app lands as .aac and your editor, forensic transcription workflow or legacy media player expects WAV. Sizes grow sharply, about 10 MB per stereo minute at 44.1 kHz.
Limitations
- WAV files are large; long recordings may strain memory on mobile browsers.
- The decoded audio cannot recover detail lost in the original AAC encoding.
- Only 16-bit output is produced.
Frequently asked questions
Is the WAV lossless?
The WAV stores the decoded samples without any new loss, but it is only as good as the AAC it came from.
Can I convert HE-AAC files?
FFmpeg decodes AAC-LC and HE-AAC, so most .aac streams from phones and radio recorders convert fine.
Does this need an internet connection throughout?
Only to load the page and the roughly 30 MB engine the first time. The conversion itself happens locally in your browser.
