Excel to JSON Converter

Turn spreadsheet rows into a JSON array your code can read directly. The first row provides the keys, and every sheet in the workbook is exported separately.

How to use Excel to JSON Converter

  1. Add one or more .xlsx, .xls or .ods files.
  2. Click Convert to JSON.
  3. Copy or download the result; multi-sheet workbooks give one file per sheet plus a ZIP option.

Spreadsheet rows as JSON objects

Each data row becomes an object such as {"State": "Kerala", "Seats": 20}. Numbers stay numeric, text stays text, empty cells become empty strings so every object has the same keys, and formulas export their computed values. The JSON is pretty-printed with two-space indentation.

Teachers, quiz makers and developers often maintain content such as questions, cut-offs or schedules in Excel. Converting it to JSON lets a website or app load that data without a database.

Limitations

  • Date cells become text in YYYY-MM-DD form (with hh:mm for date-times), so a date is never moved to the previous day by time zones.
  • Rows with no content at all are skipped.
  • Nested JSON cannot be produced from column names; output is always a flat list per sheet.

Frequently asked questions

How are multiple sheets handled?

Each sheet is saved as file-SheetName.json, and a Download all (ZIP) button bundles them.

Why are empty cells shown as ""?

Blanks are filled with an empty string so that every object keeps the full set of keys.

Which files are supported?

Modern .xlsx, older .xls and OpenDocument .ods spreadsheets, as long as they are not password-protected.

Does my spreadsheet stay private?

Yes. It is read by a library running in your browser, not on a server.
