How to use Excel to XML Converter
- Select one or more .xlsx, .xls or .ods files.

- For a single sheet, copy or download the XML shown; for several sheets, download each file or the ZIP.
How sheets become XML
SheetJS reads each sheet, taking the first row as headings. Each later row becomes a row element under the rows root, holding one child per column. Headings with spaces or symbols are converted to underscores, empty cells become empty tags, and formula cells contribute their calculated values.
Use it to feed spreadsheet data to software that imports XML, to prepare data for an XSLT transformation, or to create sample payloads for testing.
Limitations
- Cells stored as Excel dates are written as YYYY-MM-DD text (with hh:mm for date-times).
- Formatting, comments and merged-cell layout are not exported.
- Element names cannot be customised beyond the column headings.
Frequently asked questions
What happens with multiple sheets?
Each sheet becomes its own XML file named file-SheetName.xml.
Are blank rows exported?
Completely empty rows are skipped; partially filled rows are kept with empty tags.
Can I use a different root tag?
The root is always rows. Edit it in the result box before downloading if needed.
Are my files uploaded?
No, all the work happens locally in your browser.
