How to use JSON to Excel Converter
- Select or drag in one or more .json files.
- Click Convert to Excel.
- Download the .xlsx workbook, or all workbooks in one ZIP.
How the JSON is laid out
The rows come from a top-level array, or from the first array found inside a top-level object (such as {"items": [...]}). Each record is flattened: {"address": {"city": "Pune"}} becomes a column named address.city, lists of simple values are joined with semicolons, and lists of objects are stored as JSON text in a cell. SheetJS writes the result to one sheet named after the file.
Unlike JSON to CSV, the Excel writer collects headers from all records, so fields that only appear later still get columns.
Limitations
- Only one array is converted per file; other arrays in the same object are ignored.
- Very long text cells are cut by Excel's 32,767-character limit when the workbook is opened.
- Files must be strict JSON; comments or trailing commas cause an error.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert an API response saved as JSON?
Yes. If the records sit in a property like data or results, the first such array is used.
What if records have different fields?
All fields become columns; records without a field leave that cell blank.
Are numbers kept as numbers?
Yes, JSON numbers become numeric cells you can sum and chart.
Is any data uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser tab.
