How to use Split Excel File
- Upload one .xlsx, .xls or .ods file.
- Enter Rows per file; 1,000 is the default.
- Leave Repeat header row in every file on to keep column titles in each part.
- Click Split file and download file-part-1.xlsx, file-part-2.xlsx and the rest, or the ZIP.
What each part contains
SheetJS reads the first worksheet as a grid of values. The top row is treated as the header, and the data rows below are sliced into blocks of the size you set. Each block is written to a new workbook with a single sheet called Sheet1.
Because only cell values are copied, the parts are lightweight and import cleanly into most systems. That suits bulk-upload templates, distributing a long list among team members, or keeping files under email size limits.
Limitations
- Only the first sheet is split; other sheets in the workbook are ignored.
- Cell values, number formats (dates, zero-padded numbers) and column widths are copied; formulas are kept as their last calculated values, and merged cells and colours are not carried over.
- With the header option unticked, the header row is dropped from every part.
Frequently asked questions
Which sheet gets split?
The first sheet in the workbook. Move the sheet you need to the first position before uploading.
Are dates kept as dates in the parts?
Yes. Each cell is copied with its number format, so dates still display as dates and zero-padded numbers keep their zeros.
Are formulas kept?
No. Each cell keeps the value its formula last calculated.
Is the workbook uploaded?
No, the split is performed locally by your browser.
