How to use XML to Excel Converter

  1. Choose one or more .xml files.
  2. Click Convert to Excel.
  3. Download the .xlsx workbook (or a ZIP when you converted several files).

From tags to columns

The XML is parsed by the browser, the repeating record level is found by stepping through single wrapper elements, and each record is flattened: nested elements become dotted column names and attributes get an @ prefix. SheetJS then builds a single-sheet workbook named after the file, gathering every field that appears in any record into the header row.

Accountants and analysts often receive XML from tax portals, ERP exports or bank systems; this gives them a familiar grid without macros or Power Query.

Limitations

  • Every value arrives as text, so convert numeric columns in Excel (Data > Text to Columns) before doing calculations.
  • Only one sheet is produced; separate record types in one file are not split into separate sheets.
  • Very large XML files can be slow because the whole document is loaded into memory.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't Excel sum my numbers?

XML carries no types, so values are written as text. Convert the column to numbers in Excel.

Will fields missing from some records cause problems?

No. Missing fields just leave blank cells; every field seen in any record gets a column.

Can I get CSV instead?

Yes, use XML to CSV for a plain-text table.

Is anything stored online?

No. The file is read and converted in your browser.
