AVIF to PNG for editing and compatibility
Many image editors, presentation tools and older operating systems still cannot open AVIF. PNG works almost everywhere and stores pixels without loss, so it is a safe intermediate if you plan to edit, annotate or print the picture. Transparent backgrounds in the AVIF remain transparent in the PNG, which matters for logos and cut-out product images.
Your browser performs the AVIF decoding, so you need a reasonably current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. The resulting PNG is often many times larger than the AVIF, because AVIF compresses lossily and PNG does not. Any softness from the original AVIF compression is kept as-is.
