How to use PNG to WebP Converter

  1. Drop your .png files onto the upload area or tap to browse.
  2. Move the Quality slider (10 to 100, default 90) to balance size against detail.
  3. Select Convert to WEBP.
  4. Save the WebP files one at a time or as a single ZIP.

PNG versus WebP for the web

WebP was built by Google for the web and supports both transparency and much stronger compression than PNG. Product shots, banners and screenshots exported as PNG frequently become far smaller as WebP with no visible change, which helps page speed scores and mobile data use. All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari display WebP, so it is safe for most modern sites.

This converter uses the browser's built-in WebP encoder in lossy mode, steered by the Quality slider, and the alpha channel is retained. Higher values keep thin lines and small text crisp; lower values suit large decorative images where a few soft edges do not matter. Keep your original PNG as the master copy, since the WebP is not a lossless duplicate.

Limitations

  • The output is lossy WebP; there is no separate lossless mode option.
  • WebP encoding depends on the browser. Chrome, Edge and Firefox support it; if your browser cannot encode WebP the file may not be a true WebP, so prefer one of those.
  • Some older desktop software and certain upload forms still do not accept .webp files.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP keep my transparent background?

Yes. The alpha channel from the PNG is passed through, so cut-out logos stay transparent.

How much smaller will the file be?

It varies with content. Photographic PNGs often shrink dramatically; simple flat icons gain less. Try quality 80 to 90 and compare the sizes shown on the download buttons.

Can I upload WebP to exam or government forms?

Usually not. Most such portals list JPG or JPEG only, so use PNG to JPG for those.

Do my PNGs leave the device?

They do not. Encoding runs in the page using your browser's own engine.
