How to use JPG to WebP Converter

  1. Choose your .jpg or .jpeg photos, or drag them in.
  2. Adjust Quality; 90 is preset, and 75 to 85 is a common web range.
  3. Hit Convert to WEBP and wait for the progress bar.
  4. Download individually or tap Download all (ZIP).

Getting the most from JPG to WebP

Both formats are lossy, so this is a re-encode rather than a lossless switch. The tool decodes your JPG to raw pixels and the browser's WebP encoder compresses them again at the quality you set. Because WebP uses newer prediction techniques, it usually needs fewer bytes for similar-looking output. A page full of hero photos can lighten considerably, which helps on slow mobile connections.

Since detail lost by the first JPEG pass cannot return, avoid pushing the quality very low on images that were already heavily compressed. A setting around 80 is a reasonable starting point; look at the preview and the file sizes on the download buttons, then adjust. JPG photos have no transparency, so the WebP output is fully opaque as well.

Limitations

  • Two rounds of lossy compression can add softness; keep quality moderate to high for already compressed JPGs.
  • Camera metadata such as EXIF date, lens data and location is not copied into the WebP.
  • Encoding relies on the browser's WebP support, which Chrome, Edge and Firefox provide; other browsers may not.

Frequently asked questions

Is WebP always smaller than JPG?

Usually, at a similar visual quality, but not guaranteed. A tiny or already very compressed JPG may not shrink much. Compare the sizes shown after converting.

Will Instagram or WhatsApp accept WebP?

Many apps handle WebP, but support differs by app and version. For guaranteed compatibility, keep a JPG copy.

Does the photo's pixel size change?

No, width and height are unchanged. Only the encoding and file size differ.

Is this private?

Yes. Your photos are processed by script in this tab and are never uploaded anywhere.
