How to use FLAC to MP3 Converter

  1. Add one or more .flac files by dragging or browsing.
  2. Preview the first track if you like.
  3. Click Convert to MP3; tracks are processed one after another.
  4. Download individual MP3s or the full set as a ZIP.

Lossless to lossy, done sensibly

FLAC stores audio without loss. The tool decodes it and encodes with libmp3lame -q:a 2, a VBR preset averaging roughly 190 kbps that most listeners find indistinguishable from the source. Hi-res 24-bit FLAC is handled too; MP3 tops out at 48 kHz, so FFmpeg automatically resamples anything higher before encoding.

A typical FLAC album of 300–400 MB comes down to around 80–100 MB as MP3. Keep the FLAC as your archive and treat the MP3s as copies for devices with limited storage or no FLAC support.

Limitations

  • Converting a whole album is slow in a browser, especially on phones; desktop is recommended.
  • Tags and embedded cover art may not transfer to the MP3s.
  • There is no 320 kbps or CBR option on this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is VBR quality 2 good enough for music?

For most people and most headphones, yes. It is a widely used high-quality LAME setting.

Can I convert 24-bit/96 kHz FLAC?

Yes. FFmpeg decodes hi-res FLAC and, because MP3 cannot exceed 48 kHz, it resamples to a supported rate automatically before LAME encodes it.

Are my music files uploaded?

They are not. Decoding and encoding run within the browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly.
