How to use HEIC to WebP Converter

  1. Add your .heic or .heif files.
  2. Adjust the Quality slider; around 80 suits most web photos.
  3. Press Convert to WEBP.
  4. Save the WebP files or download them all as a ZIP.

HEIC and WebP compared

HEIC and WebP both aim to beat JPEG on size, but they live in different places: HEIC is Apple's storage format, while WebP is understood by Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari alike. Converting lets you publish iPhone photos on a blog or website without a JPEG detour. The HEIC is decoded with the heic2any library and the browser's WebP encoder compresses it at your chosen quality.

Because both are lossy, this is a re-encode and some detail is inevitably traded for size. Start near 80 and compare file sizes; raise the value for close-up product shots. WebP is not always accepted by government or exam portals, so for those uploads choose HEIC to JPG instead.

Limitations

  • WebP output depends on the browser's encoder; Chrome, Edge and Firefox support it.
  • Burst or multi-image HEIC files give only the first image.
  • Photo metadata, including location, is not copied.

Frequently asked questions

Why WebP instead of JPG?

WebP is usually smaller at similar quality, which speeds up web pages. JPG remains safer for forms and older software.

Will Instagram or forms accept the WebP?

Acceptance varies. For official upload forms, JPG is the dependable choice.

Do I need an app on my iPhone?

No. Open this page in a browser, pick the photos from your library, and convert.

Do the HEIC files get sent to a server?

They are not. Everything happens within the browser on your device.
