How to use TIFF to PNG Converter

  1. Select your .tif or .tiff files, or drag them into the box.
  2. No quality setting appears, because PNG compression is lossless.
  3. Choose Convert to PNG.
  4. Download the PNG files or the combined ZIP.

Keeping TIFF quality in a web-friendly file

TIFF and PNG are both capable of lossless storage, but only PNG is understood natively by web browsers. Converting keeps the scan or artwork free of JPEG artefacts, which suits line drawings, maps, handwritten notes and anything you might edit again. The TIFF is decoded in the page by the UTIF library and written out as a standard PNG with its transparency preserved.

The trade-off is that PNG output is usually much larger than a JPG would be, though often smaller than an uncompressed TIFF. Pick PNG when fidelity matters more than size, for example a scanned diagram for revision notes, and JPG when you just need to share or upload a photograph.

Limitations

  • Multi-page TIFFs: only the first page is exported.
  • High bit-depth images are converted to 8 bits per channel, so 16-bit editing headroom is lost.
  • Unusual TIFF compression schemes may fail to decode.

Frequently asked questions

Is TIFF to PNG really lossless?

For standard 8-bit TIFFs, yes: pixels are copied exactly. Files with 16 bits per channel are reduced to 8 bits.

Does PNG keep the TIFF's transparency?

Yes. If the TIFF has an alpha channel, the PNG keeps it.

Why is my PNG still large?

Lossless formats keep every detail. For a smaller file, use TIFF to JPG instead.

Is the file sent anywhere?

No. Decoding and saving both take place in your browser.
