Produces a still GIF from a WebP image for apps and older sites that refuse WebP. Note that animation is not carried over: you get one frame.

How to use WebP to GIF Converter

  1. Select .webp files with the upload button or by dragging.
  2. Nothing to configure; GIF output uses an automatic palette.
  3. Choose Convert to GIF.
  4. Save the results individually or as one ZIP.

Things to know before converting WebP to GIF

WebP can carry millions of colours, smooth alpha transparency and even animation. GIF supports animation too, but this converter draws the image onto a canvas and encodes a single frame, so an animated WebP sticker turns into one still picture. Colours are reduced to a 256-entry palette chosen for that image, and any transparency becomes simply on or off.

The typical reason to do this is compatibility: some messaging tools, forum software or old content systems accept GIF but have never added WebP. For simple graphics and memes with bold colours the result looks close to the source. For photographic WebP files, a JPG or PNG copy will usually look better and be smaller.

Limitations

  • Animated WebP is reduced to a single frame; motion is not preserved.
  • Smooth gradients and photos may band after palette reduction.
  • Semi-transparent pixels are forced to fully clear or fully solid.

Frequently asked questions

Does it keep the animation from my WebP?

No. Only a single frame is exported, so the GIF is static.

Why convert to GIF rather than PNG?

Choose GIF only when the destination specifically requires it. PNG keeps full colour and smooth transparency.

Will colours change?

Possibly. GIF is capped at 256 colours, so rich images are approximated.

Does the conversion happen online?

It happens on your device. The browser decodes the WebP and the GIF is built in the page.
