How to use Brightness, Contrast & Saturation

  1. Upload your image or images.
  2. Move Brightness % and Contrast % (100 means unchanged, range 0–200).
  3. Adjust Saturation % (0–300) for colour intensity, and Hue ° (−180 to 180) to shift all colours.
  4. Press Apply & Download when the preview looks right.

Understanding the four controls

Brightness multiplies every pixel value, so 120% lightens everything by a fifth and 80% darkens it. Contrast stretches values away from mid-grey, making darks darker and lights lighter. Saturation scales colour intensity, with 0 giving greyscale and higher values making colours vivid. Hue rotates every colour around the colour wheel, which is more of a creative effect than a correction.

A common fix for a phone photo of handwritten notes is brightness around 115% and contrast around 140%, which whitens the paper and darkens the ink. Indoor photos with a yellow cast can sometimes be calmed slightly with saturation below 100%.

Limitations

  • These are global adjustments; there are no curves, levels, shadows or highlights controls.
  • Pushing brightness or contrast high clips detail in the brightest and darkest areas, and that detail cannot be recovered.
  • The sliders use canvas filters, which current Safari keeps behind an experimental setting, so results may not apply there.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a scanned page look cleaner?

Raise contrast to about 140–160% and brightness to 110–120% until the background is near white, then check the text is still crisp.

What does the Hue slider do?

It shifts every colour by the same angle on the colour wheel, so reds may become greens or blues. Leave it at 0 for natural photos.

Are the same settings applied to all files?

Yes. Every image you add receives identical adjustments, although only the first one is previewed.
