How to use Pixelate Image

  1. Add the images you want to pixelate.
  2. Set Block size (px) anywhere from 2 to 80; the default is 12.
  3. Compare the live preview at different sizes.
  4. Press Apply & Download to keep the result.

How pixelation is produced

The image is first shrunk so that each block becomes a single pixel, which averages the colours inside that block. It is then scaled back up to the original size with smoothing switched off, so every averaged pixel becomes a crisp square. The output keeps the original width and height.

Small blocks give a subtle 8-bit game feel, while large blocks hide almost all detail. Large-block pixelation is a common way to obscure a face, a vehicle number or private details before sharing a screenshot, as long as the blocks are big enough that the content cannot be guessed.

Limitations

  • The whole image is pixelated; there is no brush or area selection for censoring just one region.
  • Small block sizes may not fully hide text or faces, so use 30 px or more for privacy.
  • Edge blocks may be partial if the image size is not an exact multiple of the block size.

Frequently asked questions

What block size hides a face?

It depends on how large the face is in the picture. As a rule of thumb, aim for no more than about eight blocks across the face.

Can I pixelate only part of a screenshot?

Not with this page. Crop out the sensitive area, pixelate it, or use an editor that supports selections.

Does it change the image dimensions?

No. The width and height stay the same; only the detail is reduced.
