How to use Remove EXIF Data
- Add the photos you want to clean.
- There are no options: the preview shows the image as it will be saved.
- Press Apply & Download, then share the cleaned copies instead of the originals.
How metadata is removed
The tool decodes each photo and redraws its pixels onto a fresh canvas, then saves a brand-new file from that canvas. Browsers do not copy EXIF, GPS, XMP or IPTC blocks into a newly encoded image, so none of the original metadata survives. Rotation is applied during decoding, so phone photos still appear the right way up.
JPG, PNG and WebP keep their format; HEIC, TIFF and other inputs are saved as PNG. Cleaning photos is worth doing before uploading to marketplaces, public forums or college groups, where coordinates embedded by a phone can reveal where you live or study.
Limitations
- JPG and WebP files are re-compressed at about 92% quality, which may slightly change fine detail and file size.
- Embedded colour profiles are dropped along with other metadata, so colours in wide-gamut photos can shift slightly.
- It removes hidden data only; anything visible in the picture, such as a street sign, stays.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check the data is gone?
Open the cleaned file in the View Metadata tool. It should report that no EXIF metadata was found.
Will my photo lose quality?
PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP are re-encoded at high quality, so differences are rarely visible.
Why is the HEIC photo now a PNG?
Browsers cannot write HEIC, so those files are saved as PNG, which can be larger. Convert to JPG afterwards if size matters.
