How to use the Central Govt Salary Calculator

  1. Pick the Pay Level of the post (for example Level 7 for an Inspector or ASO) and the cell, which is your current basic pay.
  2. Check the DA rate; it is set to the latest notified rate and you can change it.
  3. Choose the HRA city class and whether you are in one of the higher Transport Allowance cities.
  4. Keep the NPS/UPS deduction ticked if you joined after 2004.

How the pay is calculated

  • Basic pay comes from the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. Each level starts at its entry pay (Level 1 ₹18,000, Level 4 ₹25,500, Level 7 ₹44,900, Level 10 ₹56,100) and every cell is 3% above the previous one, rounded to the nearest ₹100.
  • DA is 60% of basic pay from 01-01-2026 (DoE OM dated 22-04-2026). The rate from 01-07-2026 had not been notified when this page was last checked.
  • HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay in X, Y and Z cities because DA has crossed 50%, with a floor of ₹5,400, ₹3,600 and ₹1,800.
  • Transport Allowance per month, plus DA on it: Levels 9 and above ₹7,200 in the 19 higher-TA cities or ₹3,600 elsewhere; Levels 3 to 8 ₹3,600 or ₹1,800; Levels 1 and 2 ₹1,350 or ₹900.

Worked example: Level 7 entry pay ₹44,900 in an X city that is also a higher-TA city: DA ₹26,940 + HRA ₹13,470 + TA ₹3,600 + DA on TA ₹2,160 = gross ₹91,070. NPS at 10% of basic + DA is ₹7,184, leaving ₹83,886 before income tax.

Limitations

  • Income tax, CGHS, CGEGIS, licence fee and professional deductions are not included.
  • Special allowances of some posts (for example risk, deputation or uniform allowances) and the Level 14+ Transport Allowance option for officers entitled to a car are not included.
  • The 8th Central Pay Commission has not been implemented; all figures use the 7th CPC structure.
  • Update the DA box yourself when the Government notifies a new rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current DA for Central Government employees?

Dearness Allowance is 60% of basic pay with effect from 1 January 2026, as notified by the Department of Expenditure on 22 April 2026.

What is the HRA rate for X, Y and Z cities?

Since DA crossed 50%, HRA is 30% of basic pay in X cities, 20% in Y cities and 10% in Z cities, with minimums of ₹5,400, ₹3,600 and ₹1,800.

What is the in-hand salary at Level 7 entry pay?

With ₹44,900 basic in an X city with higher Transport Allowance, gross pay is ₹91,070 and about ₹83,886 after the 10% NPS contribution, before income tax.

Does DA apply to Transport Allowance?

Yes. Transport Allowance is paid with DA on it, so at 60% DA a ₹3,600 allowance becomes ₹5,760.

Is the 8th Pay Commission included?

No. The 8th CPC has been set up but its pay structure has not been implemented, so the calculator uses the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
