CGL 2026 marking scheme
The 2026 notice sets these marks. Unattempted questions score zero.
| Paper | Questions × marks | Negative marking |
|---|---|---|
| Tier-I (4 subjects of 25 questions) | 100 × 2 = 200 | 0.50 per wrong answer |
| Tier-II Paper-I, Section-I (Maths 30, Reasoning 30) | 60 × 3 = 180 | 1 per wrong answer |
| Tier-II Paper-I, Section-II (English 45, GA 25) | 70 × 3 = 210 | 1 per wrong answer |
| Tier-II Paper-I, Section-III (Computer Knowledge, qualifying) | 20 × 3 = 60 | 1 per wrong answer |
| Tier-II Paper-II (Statistics) and Paper-III (Finance and Economics) | 100 × 2 = 200 each | 0.50 per wrong answer |
Worked example: in Tier-I, 20 correct and 4 wrong in every subject gives 4 × (20 × 2 − 4 × 0.5) = 4 × 38 = 152 out of 200.
Minimum qualifying marks (para 16.1) are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC and EWS, and 20% for all other categories, in Tier-I and in each section of Tier-II Paper-I as well as Papers II and III. The Data Entry Speed Test in Section-IV has no marks; it is judged on errors.
Limitations
- Raw score only. SSC normalises scores of different shifts, and the final cut-offs are set category-wise and post-wise, so a raw score is not a selection prediction.
- The Data Entry Speed Test (Section-IV of Paper-I) is not scored here. Use the typing speed test on this site to practise it.
- Paper-II and Paper-III are only for candidates shortlisted for JSO/Statistical Investigator and AAO/AAO posts respectively.

Frequently asked questions
What is the negative marking in SSC CGL 2026 Tier-I?
Each wrong answer in Tier-I costs 0.50 marks. A correct answer earns 2 marks, so one wrong answer cancels a quarter of a right one.
How much is deducted for a wrong answer in CGL Tier-II?
One mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III of Paper-I, where each correct answer earns 3 marks. Papers II and III deduct 0.50 marks, with 2 marks for a correct answer.
Is the Computer Knowledge Test added to my total?
No. Section-III is qualifying in nature. You must reach the minimum qualifying percentage, but its marks are not added to the Paper-I total, so the calculator shows it separately.
What are the minimum qualifying marks in SSC CGL?
The CGL 2026 notice sets 30% for UR, 25% for OBC and EWS, and 20% for all other categories, in Tier-I and in every section of Tier-II.
Will my score match the SSC result?
Your raw score will match if your counts of right and wrong answers are correct, but SSC publishes normalised marks when an exam runs in several shifts, so the published figure can differ.
