SSC typing standards

  • CHSL 2026 LDC/JSA typing test: 35 words per minute in English or 30 wpm in Hindi, typed for 10 minutes. The notice equates 35 wpm to about 10,500 and 30 wpm to about 9,000 key depressions per hour.
  • CHSL DEO skill test: 8,000 key depressions per hour (15,000 for the departments in para 8.1) over 15 minutes.
  • CGL 2026 DEST: a passage of about 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes. The maximum errors allowed are 20% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 30% for other categories.

One word counts as 5 key depressions. Example: 2,100 correct key depressions in 10 minutes = 420 words ÷ 10 = 42 wpm, or 12,600 key depressions per hour.

Limitations

  • SSC grades mistakes as full or half errors under its own evaluation rules; this practice score counts every wrong, missed or extra word as one error.
  • Hindi typing needs a Hindi keyboard layout (for example Inscript or Remington Gail) installed on your device; the test compares Unicode text.
  • The practice passages are written for this site and are not past SSC passages.

LDC/JSA candidates need 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi in a 10-minute test.

Five key depressions count as one word. Net speed uses only correctly typed words, divided by the minutes taken.

The Data Entry Speed Test asks you to type about 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes. It is qualifying, with up to 20%, 25% or 30% errors allowed depending on category.

Can I practise Hindi typing here?

Yes. Choose Hindi and type with a Hindi keyboard layout enabled on your computer or phone.

Why is pasting disabled?

So that the result reflects your real typing speed, as in the actual test.
